Water is provided from a 180' deep well by a 24v Dankoff pump that provides 2 gpm. The flow of the well is 2.5 gpm and all the fixtures are 2 gpm so it all works well in terms of volume. We have never had any water shortages or problems related to the low volume of the well and pump. |
Yes, we do have a washing machine. It is a Staber unit that only uses 15 gallons per wash cycle. This represents a huge savings in water we don't have to pump, heat or get rid of. |
Two remaining appliances are of note: We use a Joe Jennings composting toilet. You must read his book, The Humanure Handbook if you have any interest in this water saving, circle closing device. The complete text is posted online, free! The other important appliance is our 10 cu ft Sunfrost refrigerator. Expensive but great. We also have a small, Danish made chest freezer, available from a number of sources. |
We do not watch TV, so I won't talk about the power savings and time savings inherent. Sarah does work from our home office that has two computers, two printers, fax etc. Our system provides adequate power for all of this equipment. |
